Business Analyst Cover Letter Example and Tips

In this day and age some often wonder weather or not to include a cover letter along with their resume. At best, a cover letter can help you stand out from the pack. At worst, it can make a promising candidate seem boring and uncreative. If you ask a hiring manager they will most likely tell you most cover letters they see are very much the same. Its difficult to know how to stand out. Hiring managers often have mixed feelings about cover letters and its often left up to the individual weather to read them or not. There are however some best practices when it comes to writing a good business analyst cover letter.

What to include in a business analyst cover letter:

First off its best to keep a cover letter short. Usually best left under one page in length. In cover letter terms three paragraphs or half a page will do just fine. Skip a lengthy explanation and get to the goods.

Second stay away from 'generic' terms when addressing someone. What I mean by that is if you do not know who the hiring manager is by name don't just put 'Dear, Sir' or Dear, 'To Whom It May Concern'. If you don't know who you are sending the cover letter to just leave that part out and jump straight into the body.

Don't paraphrase your resume. It is ok to mention your qualifications, but you do not want to tell the hiring manager what they will already be reading shortly.

Make references as to why you want to work there. Get personal with facts or other interesting bits of information you can find. This shows you went out of your way or are very knowledgeable about there company. Explain why you would be a valuable asset to there organization. Describe how you could contribute right from the start. Employers look for candidates that can hit the ground running.

Using correct grammar is mandatory. This should be self explanatory, but it's important to mention. Make sure your cover letter is grammatically correct. With all the tools out there today, there is no reason you cover letter should be filled with typos and the like.

Close strong and be sincere. Hiring managers can tell if you put time and effort into writing your cover letter. As much pain as it may be, it's important you sit down and take time to write cover letters custom to each position you wish to apply.
